Building Speaker Stands for Bluetooth Drive-In Movie Speakers

SpeakerStandBaseSpeakerStandBase Making heavy duty steel speaker stands is not the 'exciting' part of doing work in the shop, but one of the most important steps in a speaker set restoration! You have to start with a great foundation to set the restored Bluetooth drive-in movie speaker stands on top of! You absolutely don’t want a pet or a kid to bump into them and seeing your speakers crashing to the ground - or into your car at a car show! Too many people try sitting their speakers on lightweight stands often made of plastics and PVC pipes, or use bases that are not a large enough diameter or simply not heavy enough to keep the center of gravity low. 90% of these drive-in speakers are cast aluminum (yes, there are exceptions) and if a stand falls over they will dent, ding, crack and even break! They are not indestructible!

I use 2” schedule 40 pipe and a 3/8” steel plate, laser cut at a 14” diameter for tall sets and 10” diameter for short ones. The tall stands weight 26 lbs before I ever set the J-box and speakers on them - but they are solid and NOT top heavy! And on the bottom I place felt pads, so your floors don't get scratched or marred!

Check out the quick video below as I am building a new speaker stand for an upcoming Bluetooth drive-in speaker restoration!
