Just off the Bench... A Texaco Sky Chief Themed Vintage Oak Acorn Gumball Machine
Texaco Sky Chief Themed Vintage Acorn Gumball Machine
I've re-done more old Acorn gumball machines this year than I've since before the pandemic! My most recent machine was turning this old nickel machine into a Texaco Sky Chief themed gumball machine. I always liked doing Texaco themes because I like their colors, iconic graphics with Fire and Sky Chiefs, and they had the best jingles and ads! I hadn't done a Sky Chief in a little over three years, so here we have it!
This vintage 1960s era Oak Acorn gumball machine has been completely restored and now features the classic retro styled Texaco Sky Chief gasoline theme. The machine has a glass 6 lb Acorn globe without any cracks, a cast aluminum body, and a polished coin mechanism and candy chute cover. It has rubber feet on the bottom to protect whatever surface you set it on, but can be mounted to a gumball machine stand if you want.
This machine has been restored both inside and out. Each part has been meticulously bead blasted, cleaned, polished or painted – including the parts you’ll never see. The coin mechanism has been set up to accept a nickel. The coin mech was completely disassembled, cleaned and polished, then properly lubricated upon reassembly. It will give decades of service!
The machine, as you can see, was decorated with a vintage Texaco gasoline theme featuring Sky Chief gasoline. All of the artwork featured on the machine are water slide decals (NOT stickers!) that have been applied and then clear coated over the new red and white paint scheme. The lid of the machine has an original Chicago Lock & Key gumball machine lock with the vintage key. This machine will vend large or small gumballs, or small candies like M&Ms, Boston Baked Beans, Skittles, or Jordan Almonds.
