Is Buying the Six Flags "Prestige Pass" Worth It?
33 parks are now under the Six Flags banners including Cedar Point, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Canada's Wonderland, Dorney Park, Knotts Berry Farm, and more. Is Buying the Six Flags "Prestige Pass" Worth It?
(August 2026) My wife, a teacher, has gone back to teaching school and my son has returned to his university – so summer is officially over at my house, regardless of what the calendar says! This past summer we purchased the “Prestige Pass” through Six
Flags as we anticipate several opportunities during the season to be near some of their amusement parks. Some expected and (and unexpected) trips put us in the vicinity of several participating parks under the Six Flags umbrella, and it just made sense to splurge for the passes in order to get the entry, premier parking, VIP lounge area, and a Fast Pass at each visit. Our “home park” is Six Flags over Atlanta and that is where our summer Six Flags journey begins (and ended), but along the way we also visited Kings Island, Cedar Point, and Six Flags over Texas. So was the pass worth it?
First, to spend that kind of money on any kind of pass you have to be a theme park or ride enthusiast of sorts. While I’m not “an ultimate thrill chaser”, I do love a good park ride. My wife and I went on a blind first date to an amusement park over 25 years ago because we both liked roller coasters! Over the years we’ve done many parks and our son has the bug, too. For the three of us I bought Six Flag’s top tier “2026 Prestige Pass” that came out to $157.23 each after taxes and processing fees. Here is something important to consider when looking at these passes – that price was buying it through Six Flags over Georgia, which is the park closest to me. It became my “Home Park”. My cousin, who lives closest to Cedar Point (her “Home Park”) bought the same level pass with the exact same perks, but hers was significantly more (at the same time I bought my $157 passes, Cedar Points was $325 for the same level)! I’m speculating that the reason for the higher price might be because that area also has Six Flag’s owned King Island right in the back door, as well? The closest park to the Atlanta park is Carowinds, which is a four and a half hour drive between them! I think if you were looking into these passes, I would shop around at the different parks to see if there any prices differences to save you some money. You DO have to “activate” your pass by going to the home park that you chose FIRST, however.
So what exactly did I get with this Prestige Pass? In a nutshell, you get entry to all of the Six Flags parks and remember that Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks all recently merged. That is 33 parks (including both the theme parks and water parks) across the country that can be entered unlimited times. You also get free premier parking, access to a VIP lounge (more on that later), 2 free “Bring a Friends” per season, 15% discount on food and drinks, on free Single Use “Fast Lane” per visit, and what they call “Perks & Play” which are month long specials that they run for various things like even more discounts on particular foods or merchandise in addition to the ones already included.
So again, is it worth it? For us it was. As I mentioned I knew we would be in some areas in the country with some accessible parks. Single day tickets vary park to park and fluctuate depending on the time of year or if it’s a weekend or holiday – but usually they run anywhere from $30 to $60 online (and cost more at the gate, sometimes $75-90). Parking costs also vary from $35 to $40 per car at the regular parking lots. As you can see, if you visit more than two times you are better off buying that pass at those prices… at least with at the $157 per person that I paid!
The CONS: This wouldn’t be much of a review if I didn’t talk about some issues that I have and had over the summer with these parks. The biggest problem is their app. Basically, their app is crap. I’ve been to the park 5 times, and it still shows that I’ve only been once. As a frequent Disney Parks and Universal Studios Parks visitor I can say that Six Flags’ app has a long, long way to catch up with the functions and intuitiveness that other parks have. In fact, Six Flags’ app is often downright frustrating. The map is often glitchy, difficult to maneuver, poorly filtered, and doesn’t easily show ride times directly “on the map” when you find a ride. I found it easier to snap a photo of the park at the entrance to refer to rather than deal with the app since paper maps are a think of the past, unfortunately.
The app right off the bat never logged our visits like it was supposed to and was not showing any of our pass perks that we had. I
wanted to make sure I didn’t have any issues when I went to other parks that weren’t my “home park”. So I called Six Flags customer service on June 17th. That got nowhere as their phone system is designed for you to not speak to a human and force you to use their AI customer service bot online. So I played along, and eventually their bot had me chatting online to what seemed to be a human. The human, Michael, was actually very nice and went over the issues with the app and created a case number. He said I should hear back in 3-7 days from them regarding… well, they got back to me via email ON AUGUST 6th! I was told it was a known issue and they hope to have it fixed in new app updates. Wow!
Another annoying issue is that selecting your “Single Use Fast Lane” ride is a fight at every park, because we found different steps needed depending on the park. Sometimes you have to copy your Premier Pass account number, log on the actual Six Flags website, past your pass number, then find the button the choose a drop down menu to pick a ride. Some rides at some parks have QR codes to get your Fast Lanes… some didn’t. Then some places employees had scanners to scan your phone at line entrances, others didn’t. At Cedar Point you go to a store, they scan your phone and give you a paper ticket. It’s different every place we went. There is NO reason to have to use a website in conjunction with the app that you are already logged into… everything should be self contained in the app. And ALL of these parks should have the same steps to get your Fast Lane.
The VIP lounges are included in your paid “Prestige Pass” vary park to park. Cedar Point wins hands down with the size, seating, comfort, televisions, and employee friendliness in their lounge. It was pretty nice, actually. Kings Island is a close second, although a little smaller. Both of Cedar Point and Kings Island are outside fenced off outside areas, with plenty of shaded and tented areas. It was nice. Six Flags over Georgia basically half-assed took an empty store or small restaurant and threw some chairs and a drink machine in. It is nice that it’s an air conditioned getaway in the thick Georgia humidity, but they could make their VIP area look a little more VIP-ish. It felt more like you are sneaking in a closed building and stealing some drinks and snacks. But the worst VIP area this summer for sure was Six Flags over Texas – simply because they DON’T even have one! I asked two employees where it was because I sure couldn’t find it on the craptastic app and I got blank stares! I went up front to customer service to ask, and to get help to get a Fast Lane with their convoluted multi-step process (which again, was a different way than the other parks) and was told that Six Flags over Texas (The ORIGINAL Six Flags park, mind you, since 1961) does NOT have a VIP lounge! Really? And believe me – we could have used it that day as it was our hottest and most humid park day of the entire season. So Six Flags over Texas – do better. In fact, Six Flags over Texas just needs to do BETTER period. It was the worst of the four parks we visited this summer. Obviously under staffed, brutally slow ride loading times compared to other parks, workers that were apathetic and even rude at times, and many major rides simply not operating on a Saturday in mid-June. However, I did have great conversations and interactions with two different game operators there. You can tell they cared and enjoyed their jobs… but this was the worst Six Flags day we have had since an abysmal Six Flags over St. Louis trip a few years back.
But I don’t want you to think its all bad and I’m just being overly picky…
The PROS: Prestige Parking! With the pass you get to park in the “Prestige Parking” areas, which typically are right up front. This isn’t such a big deal first thing in the morning, but after a long hot day at the park it is nice being back in your car as soon as you walk out of the gate! We typically arrive at parks just before or at opening and each time this summer we parked right at the front just behind the handicap space areas.
The VIP areas! Not Six Flags over Texas, of course, but at the other parks it is nice to stop and get a cold drink, chips, and cookies and have a seat on actual couches or cushioned chairs rather than block walls or park benches. On the hotter days, it’s nice being out of the shade with fans going, or the A/C in Atlanta. Each time we accessed these VIP areas they were not very busy and it was a nice quick break for a recharge.
The “Bring a Friend” addition to your Prestige Pass is a nice touch to bring along other people or family members. Once your pass is activated, at the gate you just tell them you are using your “Bring a Friend” and they scan your app twice – once for you and once for your guest. Since we bought three passes that gave us six extra “tickets” for other people - which worked out great for other family members and friends.
The ‘Single Use Fast Lane” is still a great add on, even though it was very frustrating using it in different ways at the park. The idea is great – you get one Fast Lane to use ONE time at the ride of your choosing that day. So at Cedar Point, we knew we wanted to ride the new Siren’s Curse roller coaster – and we just held off until later in the day and used that pass to literally walk on and ride this fantastic coaster. It’s a great thing to have in your pocket to hold on to and guarantee you get on your favorite ride at least once that day, or if you really want to get a second chance at a ride after you’ve ridden it once before. But please, Six Flags, get accessing these Fast Lanes streamlined across ALL the parks! Get your APP people on the ball.
And again, the biggest PRO using this Prestige Pass is if you know and do go to the parks multiple times. You save a lot of money
on entry and parking fees… and even food, drinks, and merchandise with the included discounts. But if you fail to return to a park a second or third time… you got hosed. So plan your summer accordingly and you can get a lot out of this up-front purchase!
And finally, I’d like to add a few random thoughts about the “Summer of Six Flags” that we had at Six Flags of Georgia, Six Flags over Texas, Cedar Point, and Kings Island.
- Six Flags over Georgia’s soft pretzels are NO JOKE. My son and I bought one on our first visit to activate the Prestige Pass. We just needed a bite – and wow! These were SO good! My wife and I were there last weekend again and saw where they were actually MAKING them! You know… a mixer, dough, rolling, and baking them at the park! Not just a frozen pretzel out of the freezer. No wonder. Just like I’m not missing a churro at Disneyland, I’m not going to skip a pretzel in Atlanta!
- Kings Island has one of the most beautiful park entrances once you walk through the gate. The pool, fountains, Bavarian style buildings, and the iconic tower looming in the background is picture perfect and classic. It really takes me back to my childhood in the 70s and seeing that for the first time. But I really wish you guys could bring back our old friends from the world of Hanna-Barbera! (Oh well, a guy can dream!)
- Cedar Point is so lucky to be on the peninsula and having that breeze coming off of Lake Erie. It really helps! Other parks feel so urban, yet at Cedar Point I feel like I’ve gone off to a vacation spot. It is nice to be able to walk out on to the boardwalk and shores of the lake to wind down a bit and relax from the hustle of the park. And please NEVER get rid of the Sky Ride, Cedar Downs, and the
skeletons on Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railway! Sure you can always chase the tallest, fastest, and coasters with the newest features, but the charm of the park are these old gems that you just don’t see at other places. So many places have taken their sky gondolas and ski lifts down, and Cedar Downs in one of only three racing carousels left in the world! These are timeless classics.
- Lets talk dark rides. Six Flags has put in a lot of money and effort in restoring much of the animatronics and scenes inside Monster Mansion, and it shows! This classic dark ride is our favorite ride at the park. It is quirky, charming, and always a welcome cooling off period from the Georgia humidity and heat. I do wish they had kept the old song at the end, though. Kings Island also did a great job with the new Phantom Theater ride. The guns shooting the ghost notes worked really well, and we ended up riding it once to “play” and then again to just enjoy the scenery and animatronics, although I STILL long for the days of “Enchanted Voyage” that once stood there! Cedar Point really needs a dark ride, bad. And Six Flags over Texas… Pirates of Speelunker Cave? What in the hell was that? That dark ride takes a major left turn! If you’ve ridden it, you know! But it is very unique!
- And now, some of my favorite coasters of the summer: We should have been able to ride Tormenta, but due to delays in
construction it was pushed back past our visit. Disappointing. But, Titan was fantastic! Kings Island’s gigacoaster Orion gets the top vote for me at that park. I’m all about height and speed, and this one did not disappoint! Mystic Timbers was a really nice surprise, too! You can’t do all the coasters at Cedar Point in one day (which was all we had time for), so we had to carefully choose. Top Thrill Dragster used to be my favorite roller coaster until Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened at Epcot. But this was my first time riding the revamped Top Thrill 2 – and it was fantastic! Steel Vengeance and the new Siren’s Curse rounded out my favorites there. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to ride Millennium Force this visit, but it has always been a favorite of mine as well. And at Six Flags over Georgia’s Goliath is without a doubt my favorite ride there behind Monster Mansion (I know, quite extreme differences, eh?)!
So after those random thoughts from the “Summer of Six Flags”, I guess I should wrap this up. Was this “Prestige Pass” worth it? For my family it was. But we worked to make it worth it with multiple park visits. So have a plan before you plop down that kind of money. But to Six Flags, there is work to do. Get your cell phone app situation figured out and please get all of these parks on the same page! Making seamless transitions for return users from one park to another will really help tempt me to buy these passes again. I’m on the fence right now (as of August 2026) as I don’t know what my next summer holds. But it would be great to know what you are doing EACH time you walk into a different park and get the same level of customer service from your employees as well. We have had the lower “Gold Passes” in the past when just kept going to the same park again and again over the season – but if some road trips are planned from Summer 2027 most likely we make the “Prestige Pass” purchase again.
