This past Saturday November 1^st, 2025 I traveled to the Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration at the Cullman Airport, in Cullman, Alabama. Every few years I’ve been able to go and the people that put this celebration on do a fantastic job and it gets better as the years go on! For a small town airport, the quality of the static displays, historical reenactors, films shown, special guests, and of course the flying aircraft and sky diving demonstrations are just top notch! I arrived just in time to see the opening ceremony and then visited the two warbirds that I was most excited to see – an F4U Corsair and an A1 Skyraider. Both happen to by my all-time favorite planes, so I was not going to miss this event! Those of you that have visited my page before may know that I have interviewed retired 99 year old Naval aviator Captain John Lavra, who flew both of these planes, a few times on my page and YouTube. A veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, he was shot down twice in A1 Skyraiders - once behind enemy lines in Korea! You can click here to read more about Captain Lavra and his story HERE.

It was great not only seeing people I knew that were Veterans at the service, but also seeing younger people take part as well as seeing reenactments from the Civil War and WWII. Up in the sky the Skydive Alabama team made a jump demonstration, as well a the Full Throttle Formation Team out of Georgia. We also had two T6 Texans do a few flybys to entertain! Passengers were taking rides on a Huey, bands were playing, booths were set up from various military and aircraft groups, and best of all Veterans were feed for free and honored all day! A1Skyraider_Cullman If you are near the northern portion of Alabama it’s well worth your time to visit Foslom Field at the Cullman Airport during their Veterans Day Celebration next year! It’s all free, you’ll learn something, and it’s a great way to celebrate the men and women that have served in our armed services!
