ProjectedSound+GreenSilver_MartinBlog It appears that I've been on a "green" kick lately! This set of Projected Sound drive-in movie theater speakers and junction box is accented by some green knobs, speaker grill, dressing ring and stand accents, and even a green LED down light! Unfortunately, it was pretty much the end of the old Hammerite Hammered Green paint that I had! That paint was was simply awesome and honestly blows away the competition as far as hammered paints go, especially the blue and greens! But it appears it is no longer being manufactured, which is a real shame. So it looks like this beauty will be the one to take the final bow for this particular color scheme... unless the people that made Hammerite (Kilz) wake up and make more! There is a demand and MANY of us in various restoration and machine work have talked about it!

IMG_9436 Anyhow, back to this speaker set! These vintage Projected Sound speakers are sitting upon a matching Projected Sound junction box affixed to one of my custom made heavy duty steel drive-in speaker stands. The stand is HEAVY and stable so the speaker set is not top heavy as to keep them (and what is around them) safe! The base is 14" in diameter and thick 3/8" steel plate, laser cut to a perfect circle, with felt feet on the bottom so floors aren't scratched. I use 2" schedule 40 steel pipe for the poles. The pole simply threads directly on to the steel base, which has a bolt welded up through the center. You will not find a heavier duty stand made for drive-in movie speakers! In fact, the large stands weight 26 lbs before I even put the speakers and J-box on there! This makes them significantly more stable in your house or beside your car so little kids, dogs, or "touchy" people can't knock them over so easy!

However, all the fun stuff is inside the speaker set. All of the old speakers, transformers, pots, wiring are gutted and trashed and everything is replaced with new electronics. Now you get Bluetooth connectivity and an MP3 player. Even cooler is the set is pre-loaded with hundreds and hundreds of vintage 1950s and 1960s commercials from the drive-in, B-movies, old cars, snacks and food, sodas, and other retro goodies that you will remember from way back then!
